Obesity is not a disease and not a problem to be solved. The medical/health fields have got it all wrong.
Obesity means your body is working perfectly, naturally, the way it is meant to as a response to environmental factors.
Read that again and let it sink in.
Change what causes obesity and it goes away, just like addressing what caused Type 2 diabetes makes it go away. Rates of obesity are increasing all over the world, but have you stopped to ask where? Fact: obesity develops fastest in countries that take on the Western Diet. The Western way of life is what causes obesity, but why?
Our body is still primed to live in paleolithic times, dealing with paleolithic problems. Back then it was shortage of food and extended periods without food that was the greatest risk to humans (besides animal attacks that is). Those with an ability to lay down fat more easily were the most likely to survive long enough to have children and – pass on that ability to store fat easily.
When food became more plentiful and supply stable, humans didn’t suddenly put on a massive amount of weight, why? Because the food available was still close to natural. Also, sugar was not in great supply and not used very much by people and there was a lot more walking and physical activity in general, going on. Even then with cheaper cars and more roads made available after WW2, there was hardly any obesity, so what was the cause?
There’s no one-cause, it’s a chain of small steps we’ve taken to change the challenges our bodies faced, over thousands of years. In the ’50’s and ’60’s we started to see weight gain, yet obesity was still rare. We didn’t see the explosion of obesity until after the ’70’s war on fat and push for sugar. High Carb, Low Fat (HCLF), was pushed to deal with heart attacks but as with everything, change something here and there will be a change over there.
Food manufacturers started removing fat from products, skinny this and lo-fat that became the new buzz words. Problem is, that produced really boring, bland foods no one wanted to eat, so manufacturers decided to add sugar in, to disguise the yuck taste, which had the bonus of making the products more addictive. It’s been proven for a while now, sugar uses the same brain pathways as opioids and is considered more addictive. Manufacturers noticed this and started to not only add more sugar to foods but also create foods with sugar added, solely for the purpose of increasing sales.
The body treats carbs the same way it treats sugar, to the body they are the same thing. What causes different reactions is what else is in the food make up, the insoluble fibre will cause a natural slow down of metabilising a carb, which allows the body time to deal with the food item, instead of do a mad panic and shove it all in msucle storage as fat. The more simple the carb structure, the closer to pure sugar it is and the blood stream HATES sugar, so works frantically to deal with it, to get it out of the blood. Basically, the higher the percentage of carbs you eat in your meal, the more likely the body will respond with storing it as fat. Not to make you fat but to get the sugar out of the blood stream.
The blood hates sugar so pushed it to be stored as fat.
The more sugar you eat, the more fat you store.
The more sugar you eat, the hungrier you’ll be, causing more eating carbs which are then stored as fat.
The food industry puts more sugar in food to make you eat more of it to raise their profits – which also makes you more hungry so your body stores more sugar as fat.
Which causes you to get fatter.
The flip side of this is, the less activity you do the less your body calls on stored fat to burn as energy. Countries that adopted the Western diet increased the rate of obesity and the countries that took on the American lifestyle (more driving, less physical activity + HCLF foods), had the greatest increase of obesity rates and the more people at the more extreme end of obesity.
Obesity is a natural, normal process designed for our survival that has been manipulated by people only interested in greed and profit. There is only one way to reverse obesity either in the individual or the society – reverse the culture changes that lead to it.
Restrict sugar, only consume complex cards when you eat them, have a greater balance between carbs and proteins, eat good fats (no seed oils) and do more physical activity. That’s it. That’s all you need to do and the weight will slowly normalise.
The best way to do that is to either thoroughly research the companies of the food you buy or learn how to make simple, nutiritieous meals from staples.
